Jonjo Shelvey made his England debut against San Marino in 2012

Two years ago Jonjo Shelvey made his England debut against San Marino at Wembley, and on Thursday night he hopes to add to his only cap so far against the same opponents.

The Three Lions continue their Euro 2016 qualification campaign under the arch against a side they faced on the road to Brazil.

And the Swansea City midfielder is back in Roy Hodgson's plans this week and is keen to show the country what he can do.

"It's been good to see everyone again and be back involved in the picture," Shelvey told TheFA.com. "Hopefully I can play some part against San Marino.

"[The last game against San Marino] was a very good team performance but to come on and play for my country is always a big honour. This is a game that England are expected to win, the main thing is we get the three points.

"The manager said to just go out and enjoy yourself. It's a lovely game to play in and the important thing is to get the win and hopefully we can get some goals."

After being named in Hodgson's squad, Shelvey linked up with some former club-mates at St. George's Park - Liverpool duo Jordan Henderson and Raheem Sterling.

The 22-year-old has been impressed by the recent form of both. He was particularly glowing of new Reds vice-captain Henderson, who scored a fine goal in training this week, which was captured by the FATV cameras.

"He's shown me a few times, but I don't think it's better than a few of mine!" he joked, "but it was a good strike and hopefully he can do it [against San Marino].

"He's always been a leader, I can't speak highly enough of Jordan. Even when he came to Liverpool we got on really well and in Israel [for the Under-21s] he was captain of the team.

"He's always been a good friend to me and someone I can look up to in terms of leadership and his abilities on the pitch."

Shelvey continued: "There are a lot of younger players in the squad compared to when I was here last time, but it's always good to keep refreshing the squad and giving players an opportunity.

"Players like Raheem, look how far he's kicked on, the same with Jordan and Adam Lallana."

With England working towards the European Championship in two years, Shelvey would love to be part of the squad but says he is focused on playing well for his club, first and foremost.

And, he hopes, if his good form for the Swans continues to be recognised at international level, more England caps will follow during the qualification campaign for France 2016.

"I can't look ahead too much to that, it's just a case of going back to my club after this trip and keep performing for them." he said.

"It's a good club to be at, it's a good family club, and they've taken a liking to me. With the team we've got down there they like to pass the ball and it suits the way I play.

"And hopefully I'll be picked in many more squads to get a chance to show what I can do."
