Joleon Lescott says he has not given up hope of playing for England – and wants to earn a recall through his form for West Bromwich Albion.
The 32-year-old won the most recent of his 26 international caps against Montenegro in March last year, and admits that a frustrating end to his time at Manchester City hampered his Three Lions career.
“I’ve always thought – even before I made my debut and ever since I made it – that I can offer something”

But the big defender has impressed since joining the Baggies, and while he did not expect to feature in England’s most recent fixtures, he would love to return to Roy Hodgson’s squad.
“I’d never rule myself out [of England contention], it’s just that I missed pre-season, I wasn’t going to get carried away by the fact I’ve played three consecutive games,” Lescott told West Brom’s website.
“But if I continue to play in the way I’ve played the last three games right up until the next international break then hopefully I’ll be closer.”
Lescott, whose Baggies side host Manchester United on Monday night, continues to watch England with interest and feels he still has something to offer.
He added: “I’ve only ever watched England games like that [with aspirations of playing].
“I’m a fan obviously and I’ve got friends playing in the team, but I’ve always thought – even before I made my debut and ever since I made it – that I can offer something.
“You’ve got to think that and it won’t change as long as I’m playing.”
