The home side snatched the lead in the first half through Waide Fairhurst, but Connor Jennings returned to haunt his former club as he levelled things up after the break to ensure a replay.
Wrexham were missing striker Louis Moult, serving the second game of his three-match ban after being sent off against Grimsby. So the Welsh club started with the same side that drew with Lincoln at the weekend.
Macclesfield Town 1-1 Wrexham
The FA Cup Fourth Round Qualifying
Friday 24 October
Moss Rose, Macclesfield
Winning team receives £12,500 from FA prize fund
Macclesfield were hit by a number of injuries to key men, with defenders Luke Waterfall and George Pilkington ruled out alongside striker Matthew Barnes-Homer,
They did receive a boost prior to kick-off by the news that Premier League side Stoke gave on-loan midfielder Adam Thomas and defender Alex Grant permission to play in The Cup.
Macclesfield started the day in seventh place in the Conference, a single point ahead of tenth placed Wrexham and it promised to be an exciting encounter after the two sides contested a 2-2 draw back in August.
The Silkmen, who had gone nine home matches unbeaten before the clash, looked to be continuing that run when they took the lead in the first half.
Waide Fairhurst broke through the midfield on 28 minutes and took aim with a heavily deflected shot that wrong footed Andy Coughlin in the Wrexham goal and nestled in the back of the net.
Wrexham thought they had equalised almost immediately when forward Andy Bishop had the ball in the back of the net, reacting the quickest when midfielder Joe Clarke's low shot smacked the post and fell to his feet. His celebration was cut short though by the raised flag of the assistant referee to rule the effort out.
On 66 minutes the tie was finally level as Jennings, who had a spell on loan at Moss Rose, created a chance all by himself and finished from 25-yards with assistance from the upright.
17 minutes before the end the Welsh side thought they had the match wrapped up when Clarke took aim with a spectacular effort that would have rivalled Jennings' strike for goal of the match if it had not whizzed by the wrong side of the post.
There were 1876 supporters in attendance - with 552 having made the trip from Wrexham - and they almost saw Bishop secure the win for his side with a bullet header after a well-taken corner with three minutes remaining.
Macclesfield then came close themselves to snatching the win when Paul Lewis headed onto the post shortly before full-time.
The replay will take place on Tuesday evening at Wrexham's Racecourse Ground with the draw for the First Round taking place on Monday.
