There was a welcome return for England forward Theo Walcott, who took his place as a substitute for Arsenal against Sunderland, nine months after he suffered a serious knee injury.

Danny Welbeck, Calum Chambers, Kieran Gibbs and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all played their part as Arsenal recorded a 2-0 win at the Stadium of Light with Alexis Sanchez scoring both goals for the north London club.
Raheem Sterling and Adam Lallana both started for Liverpool but had to settle for a point as Hull came away from Anfield with a 0-0 draw. Jordan Henderson and Rickie Lambert both appeared as second-half substitutes but could not help their side come away with a victory.
England keeper Joe Hart and midfielder James Milner were on the losing team as West Ham continued their impressive start to the season with a 2-1 win over Manchester City at Upton Park.
Under-21s captain Jack Butland saved a first-half penalty but was unable to prevent Derby County going down 2-1 to Wigan Athletic in the Championship.
