Worcester City will be in Monday's FA Cup First Round Proper draw
Worcester City booked their place in The FA Cup First Round Proper for the first time since 2005 with a 2-1 home win over Greenwich Borough on Sunday.

In the day's only Cup game, striker Ellis Deeney put City in charge with a rasping shot in the 21st minute, which took a wicked deflection to force the ball to change trajectory and loop high over Borough keeper Craig Hollaway and into the net.

There were no more goals to add to the referee's book before the break but he was forced to take a handful of names down as the occasion got to a few players and tensions rose.

And in a fractious match, the second goal of the game came, rather predictably, from an error rather than a moment of brilliance from one of the battling players.

On the hour mark, a high free-kick from Greenwich's Chris Edwards was caught but then swiftly dropped by City 'keeper Nathan Vaughn.

As the ball bounced out from the Vaughn's clutches, substitute Billy Bennett – who had only been on the pitch for 12 minutes after replacing the injured Paul Vines – pounced quickest to prod the ball home and level the scores.

The match continued to ebb and flow, with managers making changes in their efforts to secure a place in the hat for the next prestigious round and it was another shrewd sub that paid off in spades.

Just after the hour mark, City sent on Daniel Nti for Jordan Murphy and 20 minutes later the tactical change proved to be a masterstroke. A cross from Deeney dropped in the box and as Greenwich fail to clear the danger, Nti swept the ball home to the delight of the home Aggborough crowd.

There were three tense minutes added on but the home side dug in to secure the win and a place in Monday's draw.
