Neil Dewsnip says he’s delighted for two-goal hero Callum Connolly, having worked with the youngster at Everton’s academy.
The left-back bagged twice in England U18s’ 3-1 victory over Holland in Bury, and despite having worked with him for a number of years, the head coach admitted even he was surprised to see Connolly on the scoresheet.
Dewsnip said: “We go back a long way. He told me we first came across one another when he was only seven.

“I can’t remember me ever asking him to be where he was tonight, in the box, flying forwards and scoring. He could have had another one at the end as well – but it’s a wonderful experience for him.
“I’m delighted for Callum and I know his family were here as well, so they’ll be delighted for him too.”
Despite the win, Dewsnip believes his side have even more to offer –and he says it’s a joy to work with a squad that has such high standards.
“That’s a great week’s work, capped with another winning performance,” he said.
“I think we can do a little better, and I think the players do, too, and they are not quite as happy as Callum right now.
“They are a little bit subdued as they know they can play better, and that’s lovely to work with a group of boys that feel like that and want to do the best they can.
“They have terrifically high standards.”
