England left-back Leighton Baines scored a penalty and claimed two assists as Everton returned to Europe in style with a 4-1 victory over Wolfsburg in the Europa League at Goodison Park.
The 29-year-old defender, who helped the Three Lions to a 2-0 victory against Switzerland last week, was at the heart of the Toffees' creativity and solid defence which also featured England duo Phil Jagielka and John Stones.
The game was only 15 minutes old when Baines sprang into action, combining with Steven Naismith before the forward saw a strike deflect off Wolfsburg defender Ricardo Rodriguez into his own net to break the deadlock.

The hosts then doubled their advantage on the stroke of half-time when Baines latched on to a loose ball in the penalty area and picked out Seamus Coleman to head home.
Having played his part in the first two, Baines then got on the scoresheet himself and ensured Everton's win as he neatly tucked away a second-half penalty.
Kevin Mirallas added another late on before the visitors pulled one back in stoppage time - but it was Baines who will steal the plaudits.
Elsewhere, Tottenham Hotspur began their Europa League campaign with a hard-fought goalless draw against Serbian league leaders Partizan Belgrade.
Under-21 forward Harry Kane led Spurs' forward line while England internationals Aaron Lennon and Andros Townsend played as wide men for Mauricio Pochettino's side - but they were unable to find a breakthrough in front of goal as they had to settle for a share of the spoils.
