England goalkeeper Joe Hart says he and his Manchester City team-mates proved they "can match" Bayern Munich, despite Wednesday's Champions League defeat.
The Premier League holders impressed against their German counterparts - but a late deflected strike from City's former defender Jerome Boateng gave Bayern a 1-0 victory.
"We fought hard all night against a good team you know what you get when you come up against them," Hart said.
"A nasty deflection at the end has done us and Jerome Boateng comes back to haunt us."
He added: "It would have been a well-deserved draw, we made them work hard for everything. I tend to be busy against German teams.
"But we can match Bayern Munich, we know that."
Hart and his team-mates now face a key game at home to Roma on September 30, and will be desperate not to lose touch with the top of the group after the Italians won 5-1 at CSKA Moscow.
Clearly optimistic about the task ahead, Hart added: "We have some very tough games now and we have to play well against CSKA and Roma now.
"We're confident we can win the rest of our games."
