The FA’s annual party conference game had its fair share of blood, sweat and glory as the journalists ran out 3-1 winners over a hard-working Labour team.
The game was staged at the Regional Arena on the Etihad campus during Labour’s party conference in order to raise awareness of The FA’s new charity partner Breast Cancer Care ahead of October’s breast awareness month.
In a tight game there were a few bruising challenges before the press team sealed victory with a third goal late on in the game as the MPs pushed forwards looking for an equaliser.
Before the game shadow health Secretary Andy Burnham said “I don’t think there’s a family in the country that isn’t in some way touched by breast cancer, so it feels absolutely right that the national game should lend its weight to the campaign to tackle breast cancer”.
Shadow Chancellor Ed Balls lent his support to the campaign too, saying that “the work The FA is going to do with Breast Cancer Care is going to save lives and make a huge difference, so we’re really pleased to support it”.
