Aki Younis is confident ahead of Final against Campfield

OJM joint-manager Aki Younis is keeping his feet firmly on the ground ahead of his team's FA Sunday Cup Final showdown against Campfield.

The competition debutants needed extra-time to beat New Salamis 4-2 in the semi-final, after surrendering a two-goal lead during the 90 minutes.

Founded in 2007 in memory of a friend, Oliver James Mee, Younis believes that no matter what the result, getting to the Final is still a great achievement.

He said: “To reach The FA Sunday Cup Final in the first year of entering is probably the biggest day for the club since being formed.

“The club’s more important than any cup final though, because of the reason behind the club being formed.

“It’s an added bonus, us getting to the Final, and winning it would be massive for the club.

“But obviously the reason we started the club was in memory of a friend so that will take all importance over anything anyway, win or lose.”

Unlike Sunday’s opponents at Ewood Park, OJM have eased past some teams in their run so far, starting with a 4-2 win over fellow debutants Sporting Dynamo in their first ever Sunday Cup match.

That win was followed by a 4-0 win over Gedling Inn and, in the fourth round, a 5-2 defeat of AC Sportsman.

But Younis, who shares managerial duties with Buta Singh, believes that his side have been lucky in some games.

“We took each game as it came and literally after about 10-15 minutes, I’d always say ‘we’re going to win easy’ with the personnel we’ve got and watching the opposition play.

“But we’ve had a few lucky breaks to be fair, we’ve had the rub of the green with the ball.

“That’s not to say we would have lost the games, because we were in comfortable positions at the time, but we have ridden our luck a bit.”

He added: “Any cup final makes me proud of the players.

“We’ve been to cup finals before so it wouldn’t be the first or the second. We’ll just treat it as any other game.

“Whatever the outcome is, the memory of Oliver is going to live on regardless.”
