Manchester City’s new duo Fabian Delph and Raheem Sterling have spoken of their excitement ahead of the forthcoming season.

The England pair joined the Citizens from Aston Villa and Liverpool respectively during the summer.

And as the new season approaches, with a major international tournament at the end of it, both say they cannot wait to showcase their skills at the very top level.

Sterling, who completed his move from Anfield on 12 July, told the Manchester Evening News: “I’m delighted to be here.

“The decision was very easy as soon as I knew (that City wanted me).

“With the players they’ve got here it’s an attractive place to be and I’m very happy I made that decision.

“A club like this with the players we’ve got we should always be challenging for the title and I don’t think that’ll be any different this year.

“We’re going to do the best we can hopefully and get our hands on some silverware at the end of the season. That’s our main objective.”

Five days after Sterling’s arrival at the Etihad the club announced that his England team-mate Delph had also put pen to paper.

The Bradford-born midfielder signed a five-year contract with Manuel Pellegrini’s side, and has also talked of his expectations for the forthcoming season.

“I’m really looking forward for the opportunity to challenge for title,” said Delph.

“To see if I can add something different to the team and help them push forward.”

City travel to the Hawthorns to take on West Bromwich Albion on Monday in their first Premier League game of the season.

And as he prepares for the new season, he is also relishing the prospect of his first taste of European football.

“The Champions League," he continued. "It’s every boy’s dream to play in it and hopefully we can do well and keep pushing on."
