The England Under-19s defender produced an impressive debut Premier League performance for the Reds as they defeated Stoke City 1-0 on Sunday.
The 18-year-old moved to Merseyside from Charlton Athletic this summer, and having shone in the left-back role handed to him at the Britannia Stadium, Aldridge was delighted with what he saw from the Greenwich-born teenager.
"I’m wary of speaking too much, too soon about a young footballer, but I think Liverpool may have 'found one' in Joe Gomez," the 1989 FA Cup winner wrote in his column for the Liverpool Echo.
"I watched this lad closely during pre-season, because I’d heard very good things about him from people who saw him at Charlton Athletic. And throughout the summer, he just kept impressing.
"He earned his chance at Stoke with his performances in Australia and the Far East, and I’ll tell you something, he’s done himself no harm with the way he played on his Premier League debut either.
"He’s 18 years of age, but you wouldn’t know it to watch him. He’s so comfortable, composed, quality.”
And the former Republic of Ireland international was particularly pleased with how he coped against one of the top-flight’s most notoriously difficult opponents.
“That was a proper test for a young defender; up against a wily player like Jon Walters, in front of a hostile crowd who will always try and put you off your game,” he added.
"That was a superb performance from the young man. He’s got a big future, Gomez.
"He can play anywhere across the backline, so he will be a more than useful player for Brendan Rodgers. He’ll get plenty of chances this season, no question about it. He certainly took the first one that came his way, on Sunday."
Another Englishman at Anfield, James Milner, also made his Liverpool debut two days ago having joined the club on a free transfer from Manchester City.
And the sheer depth of the midfielder’s experience makes him a strong addition to Liverpool’s ranks, believes first-team coach Gary McAllister.
Such has been the speed of the 29-year-old’s adaptation life on Merseyside that Brendan Rodgers named him vice-captain to Jordan Henderson ahead of the season’s kick off.
“He is a winner, he has won leagues,” McAllister told Liverpoolfc.com. “He’s an experienced player in big competitions and big competitions for his country as well. He brings good experience.
“You can bring in players that are a little bit older and have got experience but their experiences are not necessarily good ones. But he’s got good experience, he knows how to win. His professionalism in the opening three or four weeks that I’ve been here has been outstanding.”
