Ross Barkley continued his impressive start to the season with his second goal in a week.
Following his stunning strike in the opening day draw with Watford, Barkley laid the pass for Romelu Lukaku to score his second goal, before wrapping up the scoring in Everton’s impressive 3-0 win at Southampton.
Midfielder Nathan Redmond helped fire Norwich to their first win of the season in some style – a 3-1 defeat of Sunderland.
The home fans poured out of the Stadium of Light in their droves as the Canaries raced into a 3-0 lead, but those that stayed had something to shout about late on when Duncan Watmore climbed off the bench and marked his first taste of Premier League action with a consolation goal.
And Redmond’s England Under-21s team-mate Eric Dier opened the scoring in Tottenham’s 2-2 draw with Stoke.
The north London club were seemingly cruising to a 2-0 victory, but after striker Harry Kane appeared to limp off with an ankle injury on the hour Stoke roared back to take a point.
But manager Mauricio Pochettino insisted Kane was simply tired rather than injured.
“We knew before the end of last season Harry Kane would play a lot and the consequences you can see now,” he said.
“Every game is different; today my feeling was he was tired.
“This is the truth, at 2-0, after 65 minutes, I think it was enough for him. We don’t take risks with his body.”
A front two of Rickie Lambert and Saido Berahino could find no way through Watford’s rigid defence, as West Brom were made to settle for a point in a goalless draw.
Teenager Reece Oxford had a Premier League debut to remember at Arsenal last week, but was substituted at half-time of West Ham’s 2-1 home defeat to Leicester.
But manager Slaven Billic said the 16-year-old was not to blame for the defeat.
“The first-half performance was not down to Reece Oxford,” he said. “There were a few candidates I could have taken off.”
Charlie Austin looked to have set QPR on their way to victory with his second-half goal doubling their advantage against Cardiff.
But the Welshman roared back to snatch a point late on in a 2-2 draw.
In League One, Adam Armstrong continued his fine start to life at Coventry with two first-half goals as the Sky Blues romped to a 4-0 victory at Millwall.
Armstrong, who has scored nine goals in nine games for the England Under-18s, also struck twice in last weekend’s 2-0 win over Wigan.
The 18-year-old, on loan from Newcastle, is set to stay with Coventry on a youth loan until January 16.
Jordan Pickford kept England Under-20s team-mate Sam Gallagher at bay, as Preston beat fellow promoted side MK Dons 1-0.
On the continent, Lewis Baker was on target from the penalty spot as Vitesse Arnhem beat Roda JC 3-0 on Friday night.
And Taylor Moore was an unused substitute as Lens were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Creteil in Ligue 2.
