The 19-year-old has joined the Championship club on a season-long loan from Arsenal, scoring on his debut in the club’s opening game of the campaign against Huddersfield Town and then netting again in a League Cup tie at Accrington Stanley.
And City boss Bruce believes there is a lot more to come from the east London-born striker as he gains more experience under his charge.
"Chuba has a chance, doesn't he? Wow," exclaimed Bruce, who has also taken Akpom’s England and Arsenal team-mate Isaac Hayden on loan to the KC Stadium.
"He still has a lot to do and a lot to learn. But, in terms of raw talent, you don't have to watch him long to realise the natural ability that he has. Only a few are blessed with that."
Akpom has been a regular for the Young Lions over the years, scoring goals at U16, U17, U19 and U20 level as well as impressing Arsene Wenger at the Emirates Stadium.
He scored a hat-trick against a Singapore XI in their pre-season tour of Asia, but is now continuing to learn his trade in the Championship following previous loan spells with Coventry City, Brentford and Nottingham Forest.
"He has to learn and this league will teach him that," added Bruce.
"Had he scored [against Wolves on Sunday], that would have been three in three for him so it's been a wonderful start.
"He turns round and runs at defenders, that is when it is tough for the opposition.
"He has an outstanding chance because of his ability."
Akpom could be a contender for Gareth Southgate’s England Under-21 squad when it is named next week.
