And he started the year by scoring England's first equalising goal against Germany in their thrilling 3-2 win at Middlesbrough's Riverside Stadium in late March as the Three Lions headed to Czech Republic in June full of confidence.
Lingard was among the best performers for Southgate's side during those games too, culminating in a dramatic and no less stunning goal to beat Sweden in Olomouc during England's second group game.
Since then, Lingard has started to establish himself in the first team with Manchester United, where his performances saw him receive his first call-up to Roy Hodgson's senior squad in November.
Lingard is one of the five contenders for the Vauxhall England U21s Player of the Year for 2015 and polls are now open for the award, with members of the England Supporters Club able to cast their vote for one of the five candidates.
