Aston Villa pulled off one of the results of the day in The FA Women’s Cup Third Round as they beat newly-promoted Sunderland 2-1 at home.
The Lady Black Cats did a league double over their opponents last season, winning 3-0 and 3-1 en route to promotion from The FA WSL 2.
And it looked as though it could be the same story again when Keira Ramshaw’s strike made it 1-0 after 18 minutes.
However, an own goal from Sunderland right-back Abby Holmes levelled the scores before half-time and a stunning injury-time volley from Emily Owen dumped the 2008-09 runners-up out of the competition.
There were surprises elsewhere too, as FA WSL 2 side Oxford United were shocked 3-0 at home by FA Women’s Premier League Northern Division side Coventry City.
The Sky Blues were well worth their victory, and led from the start after Destiney Toussaint stabbed home a close range effort with just a minute played.
It was one-way traffic in the first half and Toussaint doubled her tally when she finished off Amber Hughes’ square pass. And despite Toussaint seeing red for violent conduct, Coventry added to their lead through Helen Dermody as they cruised into the fourth round.
Meanwhile Yeovil Town made no mistakes as they dispatched Lewes 4-1 at home. Corinne Yorston grabbed an early goal to give the Lady Glovers the lead.
Wales international Helen Bleazard did her best impression of David Beckham as she lobbed the scrambling Lewes keeper from the halfway line.

Cherelle Khassal got one back for the visitors, but Ellie Curson re-established Yeovil’s two-goal advantage before half-time from the penalty spot after new signing Annie Heatherson was brought down.
Heatherson got in on the act herself in the second-half, her debut goal capping off a fine performance.
Goals from Anneka Nuttall and Stacie Donnelly made sure Watford would also have their name in the hat for the Fourth Round draw as they came through a tight encounter with Brighton and Hove Albion 2-1.
On Saturday Doncaster Rovers Belles beat London Bees 3-0 at home with Bethany England, Courtney Sweetman-Kirk and Sue Smith all getting on the scoresheet.
WSL clubs Millwall Lionesses, Durham and Reading were due to be in action against Lowestoft Town, Radcliffe Olympic and Crystal Palace respectively but they all saw their games postponed until Sunday 8 February as a result of the adverse weather this weekend.
