Liam Bridcutt sets sights on Wembley trip with Sunderland

Liam Bridcutt is hoping the incentive of a strong FA Cup run will be enough to inspire Sunderland to victory against Fulham on Tuesday night.

The Black Cats face a replay at Craven Cottage, with the winners earning a trip to Bradford City in the Fifth Round Proper, following their draw on Wearside nine days ago.

And after seeing the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur already knocked out of The Cup, Bridcutt is keen for Sunderland to take advantage.

"It does give you that extra boost when you see some of the bigger clubs drop out of the competition," revealed the 25-year-old.

"It gives us that extra momentum to go on and try and progress.

"I know we didn’t have the greatest of performances in the first tie against Fulham but we’ve played a couple of games since then and we’ve looked better."

Bridcutt recently celebrated his first anniversary at the north-east club, after moving from Brighton & Hove Albion last January.

He saw the club get a taste of Wembley in the League Cup Final just weeks later and knows that another few positive results could see Sunderland heading back to the arch.

"The chance to play Bradford in the next round is a great incentive," he told SAFC.com

"We can’t take anything away from them, especially after what they did against Chelsea, but it is a great opportunity for us.

"We want to get to Wembley like we did last season and we’ll be doing everything we can to get there."

The former Chelsea youngster has worked well with Poyet, especially since the start of January when he regained his spot in the starting line-up.

"I’m enjoying my football," he said. "I’ve been working hard in training and it’s good to get a run in the team and show what I can do.

"It’s nice to play in so many games and I’ll be doing all I can to hold onto my place in the team and keep performing."
