The funeral is to be held on Tuesday of Sir Jack Hayward OBE, the Life President and former owner and chairman of Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Sir Jack passed away on 13 January at the age of 91. He was the benefactor who donated £1m to rebuild the hospital on the Falkland Islands after the war in 1982 and a similar amount to help British widows and orphans.
In football he is known as the local boy – he was born near Molineux – who bought Wolves with a dream to take it to the top level of English football.
In 2003 that dream came true, if only for one season. By the time he sold the club he was 84 years old and felt that it needed to be passed to younger hands.
The scale of his generosity – he was reported to have spent £50m on the club over his 17 years of ownership – quite rightly won him the affection and gratitude of generations of Wolves fans.
