Rolando Aarons nears return from injury confirms Carver

Newcastle United winger Rolando Aarons is nearing a return to first-team action says Magpies boss John Carver.

Speaking ahead of their game with Crystal Palace on Wednesday, Carver confirmed that the England U20 international will return to training next week having been absent through injury.

"He will start work with Dave Billows, our fitness and conditioning guy, on Thursday," he said. "He will start training with us on Monday."

The 19-year-old has not appeared for United since November, but despite suffering a frustrating time with injuries, he has still made an impact at the club this season.

He made his Premier League debut as a sub during the opening game of the season in a defeat against Manchester City. A fortnight later he netted his first senior goal for the club in a 3-3 draw with Crystal Palace, also setting up Mike Williamson for his goal during the same game.

He then spent six weeks on the sidelines with a hamstring injury, but returned at the end of October to hit his second goal for the club in a 2-0 away win at Manchester City in the League Cup.

He has also impressed on the international stage, scoring on his England debut for Aidy Boothroyd’s U20s as they defeated Romania 6-0 back in September.
