Joe Clarke inspired Wrexham to a victory that gives them one foot in The FA Trophy Final at Wembley, with Saturday's second leg still to come.
The 26-year-old midfielder marked his 175th appearance for the club with the opening goal - and he possibly has not scored one better.
Wrexham 2-1 Torquay
The FA Trophy
Semi-Final first-leg
Saturday 21 February 2015
Clarke's silky step over near the edge of the area after 25 minutes made time for him to look up before picking his spot in the top corner of the Torquay net to spark celebrations.
It was the mark of what was an entertaining Semi-Final first-leg tie, and Wrexham looked to have done the business when the ever-dangerous Louis Moult made it 2-0 after the break.
With 19 minutes remained, Mark Carrington played in Connor Jennings, whose shot was only parried by Torquay keeper Martin Rice.
Former Stoke City striker Moult was on hand to poke home, doubling the advantage for the 2013 Trophy winners.
But the tie was kept alive for Torquay - Trophy finalists in 2008 - when Ryan Bowman pulled a goal back on 78 minutes, stooping to guide home past Andy Coughlin from close-range.
