England left-back Demi Stokes will play next season in the FA WSL after signing for Manchester City
The 23-year-old from South Shields joins the Continental Cup holders from the University of South Florida, where she has been playing since 2011.
A member of the England U19s squad which won the 2009 European Championships under Mo Marley, Stokes has played previously in the Women's Premier League for Sunderland.
She has 24 caps for her country at youth team level, was handed a senior debut by Mark Sampson in the meeting with Norway in La Manga last January, and has won a further nine caps, scoring once.
Stokes said after joining City: "It sounds cliche but it's a dream come true to go professional.
"It's something I've always wanted to do and to do it with a club like City is really exciting.
"If someone would have told me a few years ago I'd be in this position, I probably would have laughed at them.
"It's amazing how the women's game has grown and the support it has received is helping that go forward."
Stokes joins a cabal of England players at City.
In November defender Lucy Brone joined a City squad already containing Lionesses captain Steph Houghton, goalkeeper Karen Bardsley, midfielder Jill Scott, and striker Toni Duggan.
