England U20s midfielder Matty Grimes says he is "delighted" to have completed his move from Exeter City to Swansea.
The 19-year-old has signed a four-and-a-half-year deal with the Premier League side after passing a medical on Friday.
“I’m glad it’s done – I’m delighted,’’ he told SwanseaCity.net. “I seem to have been waiting a long time for this day to finally arrive.
“It’s a sad day to leave Exeter because I’ve been with the club from the age of 10. They’ve been fantastic to me and I can only thank them for their help. It’s a great club with good people and supporters.
“But I’m moving on to bigger and better things and I hope it’s the start of another successful chapter in my career."
Grimes made his Exeter debut in August 2013 and went on to make 62 appearances for the Grecians, scoring five goals.
His form at the League Two club earned him the honour of being the first Exeter player to be called up by England U20s earlier this season along with keeper Christy Pym.
But after sealing his move to the top flight, Grimes said: “I can’t wait to get started. Obviously I need to settle in first, get in and around the first team and hope to take any opportunities that come my way in the future.
“I’ve watched a lot of Swansea, especially over the last month or so, and I’m a big fan of Ki [Sung-Yueng]. We played against Swansea in pre-season and I thought he was class.
“But they’ve got good players all over the pitch and I love their style. The manager instils total football into the players and the club seems really grounded, probably because they’ve come from the bottom in such a short space of time.
“It’s going to be great to be part of all that."
