A tough campaign last year saw them finish eighth in FA WSL 2 after being hit by the long-term absence of captain Dionne Lennon with a broken fibula followed by the resignation of boss Alberto Kurti.
Coach Dan Mlinar stepped into the caretaker manager role, before he was handed the reins permanently for this coming season, and Maple wants to hit the goal trail under the new stewardship.
“We have so many young, talented players fighting for places”
Lilli Maple on Millwall's young squad
She said: "I’m itching to get back to football already and most of the girls are as well.
"I think our big aim is to score more goals as a team but other than that we have a good squad and can only go from strength to strength.
"Apart from the games against Sunderland last year, we were really close to every team so it’s going to be tight next season as it’s quite a close League.
"We will see if the club bring in any strikers, but we’ve already got some great younger players coming from the development squad."
Millwall managed just 20 goals in 18 league games last year, but with young prospects Paige Anderson-James and Shannel Peat hoping to continue their development in the first team, Maple is confident her side will be testing opposition goalkeepers more regularly this season.
She added: "Paige and Shannel are really great players who did well when they made the step up last year, so it could well be them that help us find the net more next year.
"All over the team we are going to have so many young, talented players fighting for their places, which will make it more interesting."
After making her first-team debut in Millwall’s opening game against Watford last season, Maple’s eye-catching performances and tenacious style earned her a call-up to an England U19s training camp.
And the youngster is hoping to draw inspiration for her own future international career from the leading lights of the women’s game at the 2015 World Cup in Canada.
"It was a real shock to get picked for the England U19s squad, I couldn’t believe it," she admitted. "It’s going well at the moment and hopefully I’ll keep getting picked.
"The Women’s World Cup is going to mean so much in terms of growing the sport and making sure that more and more people recognise it.
"I’d like to think that England will do really well as they’ve got an excellent squad made up of very experienced players, but also giving some youthful players coming through a good chance.
"I’d definitely hope to be part of an England World Cup squad one day."
