Birmingham City Ladies have signed midfielder Alex Windell ahead of the 2015 Women’s Super League season.

The 24-year-old joins last years's FA WSL third-placed side after coming through the Bristol club's Centre of Excellence and Female Football Academy at Filton College.

Windell joined Academy's first-team squad In 2011 but missed all of last season with an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Blues Ladies boss David Parker said: “Alex is a player that has been monitored for some time and once the opportunity became available to bring her to the club there was no hesitation.

"As always, there is more to a player than just what they can do on the pitch. Their off-the-field mentality and overall persona of fitting into our group is a key aspect in our recruitment policy."

He added: "Doing our research and meeting Alex we knew it was the right fit for us.

"She will add even more quality to an already strong midfield unit at the club and given her versatility Alex will be able to add another dimension to our squad.

"I am delighted to bring Alex to the club and it is exactly what we need to push us onto another level with her tenacity and technical ability.”
