England captain Steph Houghton insists she’ll never get tired of winning after helping Manchester City beat bottom side Bristol Academy.

Lionesses and City team-mate Toni Duggan netted a goal in each half while Daphne Corboz also notched her first strike for the club late on to secure a second successive win for City in The FA Women’s Super League.

And Houghton, who skippered the Three Lionesses to third place in the Women’s World Cup earlier this month, admits the past few weeks have been a whirlwind.

"I’m not going to lie, last week we were a bit tired because we’ve had a hectic two months but we all want to play for Manchester City and if you look at our performances and our results it doesn’t look like we are tired at all," she said.

"The main aim of today was to come here and get three points and we’ve done that. We scored three goals and it could have been a lot more so overall, we’re really happy.

"The World Cup was a great tournament for us, to come home with a bronze medal, everybody was brilliant. It was a tough tournament but we showed a lot of character, a lot of desire and a lot of passion to wear the shirt.

"We all like to play in front of big crowds and you’ve seen a lot of improved attendances and hopefully that continues."

In front of 946 spectators at Stoke Gifford Stadium, City took the lead courtesy of a stunning Duggan strike on 28 minutes, the forward cutting in from the left and lashing the ball in off the underside of the crossbar.

City came out flying in the second half, hitting the woodwork twice through Duggan and Izzy Christiansen, and eventually found the second goal on 68 minutes as Duggan slotted home from close range.

And the visitors sealed the points with eight minutes remaining as substitute Corboz, who signed earlier this month from Georgetown University, poked home another scrappy effort.

It leaves Bristol Academy still searching for their first win of the FA WSL 1 season, and keeper Mary Earps admits there is plenty to work on.

"We're all a bit disappointed with the performance, I think that’s how football goes sometimes," admitted Earps.

"Manchester City came here and put in a good solid performance, they had far too much time on the ball, particularly in midfield.

"We will work on pressing the ball a bit quicker, making sure we are being brave to get on the ball, because every team is a good team in FA WSL 1.

"We’ve got to be brave to make sure everybody wants the ball, and that we don’t go hiding. As soon as one person goes hiding, that makes it more difficult for everyone else and we have to battle hard together."
