The 19-year-old is on pre-season tour with the Reds in Malaysia, having already impressed in their previous games in Thailand and Australia.
And after seeing Sterling complete his move to Manchester City last week, the former Wycombe Wanderers youngster wants to stake his claim to be the man to step into his friend and former team-mate’s boots.
"Football is about chances," said Ibe, who caught the eye of Brendan Rodgers in the first half of last season during a loan spell with Derby County before he was recalled to Anfield for the remainder of the campaign.
"Raheem is a great player but hopefully now I will get a chance to play and prove to the manager that I can play in the Premier League."
South London-born Ibe was a regular for the Three Lions at U20 level last season, before injury ruled him out of the trip to the Toulon Tournament in May.
He will now be hoping to force his way into Gareth Southgate’s Under-21 squad for their new Euro campaign which starts against Norway on Monday 7 September.
And he has already been impressed by one of Southgate’s former charges Danny Ings, who joined Liverpool from Burnley in the summer and scored his first goal for the club in the victory over Adelaide United earlier this week.
He told LFCTour.com: "It was great to see Danny get his first goal.
"I've been chatting with him and he's been wanting to score. He's a great player and I'm happy for him.
"He makes runs in behind, he's very quick and you saw how well he played in the Premier League last season.
"With all of the new players coming in hopefully they can add a different style and bring goals to the team."
Liverpool are next in action on Friday when they face a Malaysian XI in Kuala Lumpur before they play HJK Helsinki in Finland on Saturday 1 August.
