The Webb Ellis Trophy stopped off on its latest leg of the Rugby World Cup Trophy Tour this afternoon, as St. George’s Park welcomed a number of local rugby enthusiasts from Burton on Trent to meet former England captain and current RFU chairman Bill Beaumont.
Both St. George’s Park and Wembley will play an integral part in the Rugby World Cup, with SGP hosting both Ireland and Argentina for their basecamps during the tournament, while Wembley is one of the tournament venues for the Irish.
St. George’s Park managing director, Julie Harrington, said: “It was great that St. George’s Park could be a part of the Rugby World Cup Trophy Tour today, and it was particularly pleasing to give Burton Rugby Club an opportunity to be a part of the event.

“We’ve been lucky enough to be chosen by both Ireland and Argentina for their base camps later in the year and a great deal of effort has gone in across the whole facility to ensure we can make their stays here successful.
“The work of our grounds team in particular to prepare such a fantastic playing surface is evidence of the hard work that has gone in, and it reiterates further St. George’s Park enhancing reputation as a multi-sport facility, in addition to all our usual football activity.”
Ireland and Argentina will be in the perfect proximity for their games when based at SGP, with both teams due to play in both Leicester, and Birmingham at Villa Park.
