Three Lions boss Roy Hodgson is currently in Russia for the draw, which takes place in St. Petersberg and will see England find out their opponents for the qualifying stages of the 2018 tournament.
And Lewington says he still feels a tinge of anticipation when it comes to the competition draws in the international game.
"It’s always exciting when you come to the draws, finding out who you’ve got but the fact is, whoever we get, we’re going to have to go there and do our homework and play against them," said Lewington, speaking at Friday’s Together For England Roadshow at his former club Fulham.
"There are no easy games so we know it’s going to be difficult and it just hits home sometimes, when you think we’re halfway through the Euros and already, we’re thinking about the World Cup in a year’s time."
FA chief executive Martin Glenn was also at the event, which saw a £25,000 cheque from The FA Community Shield fund donated to the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.
And he’s also eagerly anticipating news from the draw, which is scheduled for 4pm on Saturday afternoon.
"It’s always exciting," he said.
"The qualifying process is normally a little bit difficult, but we did pretty well to qualify last time from a tough group, so I’d probably like an easier group than we had last time.
"But it’s a naturally exciting thing, it gets the whole country going and it sharpens the team up, so I’ll be intrigued to see the group that we’re in."
