Martin Glenn relishing Wembley double-header

It starts at 3pm on Saturday when the SSE Women’s FA Cup Final between Chelsea and Notts County takes place.

And on Sunday FA Cup holders Arsenal play Premier League champions and London rivals Chelsea in The FA Community Shield with McDonald's, the annual curtain-raiser for the new season.

"We sometimes take things like the Community Shield for granted," said Glenn.

"It’s the biggest game of its type in the world and it would be great if other countries emulated what we do."

Besides pitting two of England’s best teams against each other, the Shield also plays a charitable role with money raised from the game distributed to charities by The FA and the competing clubs.

Last week Glenn presented a cheque for £25,000 from the Community Shield Fund to the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation and there will be more donations to come following Sunday's game.

"It just does terrific things and we’re investing £2,000 in every club which makes it to the first round of The FA Cup to go to charities of their choice in their community," revealed the CEO.

"It’s a good thing and it shows we’re part of the community and not just taking from it."

There is set to be a record attendance for the Women’s FA Cup Final, with over 27,000 tickets sold already, and Glenn is looking forward to the game between two FA WSL 1 clubs.

Neither Chelsea or Notts County have won The Cup previously, so there will be a new name on the honour’s list come Saturday evening.

"I think it’s brilliant, the Cup Final tickets are selling really fast," added Glenn.

"The success of the England team in the World Cup in Canada has really triggered interest and we’re seeing higher attendances in the WSL.

"So buy your Cup Final tickets now, because they’re selling like hotcakes!"
