Chuba Akpom is hoping the momentum of England Under-20s' campaign can force them into the Toulon Tournament final with victory over Mexico.

The Arsenal forward is with Aidy Boothroyd's squad in the south of France preparing for their final group game against the Central American outfit on Wednesday.

The Young Lions are well-placed having drawn with Morocco and defeating Ivory Coast, but Akpom says he and his team-mates are in confident mood ahead of the showdown.

“It’s all about building momentum and we are doing that, hopefully we can get more wins and go far as possible in the tournament," he told TheFA.com.

"I’m really looking forward to the challenge of Mexico tomorrow, we’ve had a couple of days break and all the lads can’t wait to play again and we are confident that we can get a result."

The tournament is providing plenty of new experiences for Boothroyd's youngsters as they look to maintain their season-long unbeaten run.

Akpom is also looking to continue his hot run in front of goal for his country, having netted twice so far in France.

“It’s always good to score goals for my club and country not just for myself but most importantly for the team, goals are what makes the team win so if I can contribute more goals that would be nice," he added.

“The tournament has been good so far, each game has brought different challenges and experiences for the team.

"I am happy to score a couple of goals already in the first two games. We struggled abit in the first-half against Morocco as we were still adapting to the conditions but the lads managed to bring it back in the second half and it was good to score in that game and then again in the second game against Ivory Coast."
