Adam Lallana wants to do the Three Lions justice

Lallana: "I'd take a 1-0 now"

England take on Slovenia on Sunday looking to end their season unbeaten - and it would be a perfect response to last year's World Cup, according to Adam Lallana.

The 27-year-old was part of Roy Hodgson's squad in Brazil last summer as they returned home after defeat in the group stages.

Now, with Euro 2016 their sole focus and with a 100 per cent record so far in qualifying, Lallana says the experiences of the last year will only help the team improve.

"We’ve gone a year unbeaten and I think it’s gone well as far as qualification is concerned," said the Liverpool forward.

"We have surpassed a few obstacles and teams that will be difficult. And it’s going to be another difficult one on Sunday - especially going away from home.

"There is never an easy game. Like in Estonia, where they put 10 men behind the ball and you have to show patience to break them down. It might be similar this time. We’ve got to be patient.

"But if you gave me a 1-0 now, I’d take that."

He continued: "At the end of the day it's about winning, however you get that winning formula it doesn't really matter.

"We've got to find a way of winning, especially in big games, in the games that matter.

"We've done that in the qualifying campaign so far, we have to keep learning and hopefully take that into the next big tournament.

"But we've gone unbeaten for this season so far - I think the lads have responded very well."

Lallana was unfortunate to miss the early part of a stop-start season but is determined to finish it on a high and keep improving for both club and country.

Following his return from the World Cup he moved from Southampton to Liverpool, and with it came the added pressure of playing for one of the country's biggest clubs.

An injury in pre-season, though, stopped him from showing the Anfield faithful what he could do, until his return to action for the Reds in September.

And it was a month later before he was able to pull on the Three Lions shirt again and he he figured in the last four internationals of 2014.

Lallana picked up another knock which kept him out of the March double-header but now, though, he is back fully fit and eager to fulfil expectations and play a key role in Roy Hodgson's Euro 2016 ambitions.

"I am always looking to improve," said the St. Albans-born playmaker.

"It’s been different for me this season even going to Liverpool. It’s a bigger team, bigger expectations and it’s the same with England.

"The demands and the standards are higher and I will be looking to kick on for England as I will be for Liverpool as well. I can only see myself getting better with the more games I play."

Lallana continued: "Whenever you put on an England shirt there is always going to be pressure to do well - you demand that from yourself, too.

"It’s a great honour for us to play at the peak level for England and you are always going to want to do that justice.

"We're not looking past the Euros at the moment, we've not even got there yet.

"Our focus is solely on the game on Sunday because we know if we win there then we're very close."

He added: "We want to finish the season with a win, as I am sure every team will.

"But it is going to be a tough match. Going away from home to the likes of Slovenia can be difficult. We need to make sure we're fully focused."
