Wayne Rooney hailed Jack Wilshere’s “fantastic” performance against Slovenia and urged him to go on and become one of the best midfielders in the world.
The England captain struck late on to seal a thrilling 3-2 victory for the Three Lions at the Stadion Stozice, but it was Wilshere’s two goals that stole the show for Roy Hodgson’s men as they came from behind to win.
“Jack has done fantastic. Jack and myself have formed a good understanding on the pitch when he is in that role,” Rooney told ITV.

“He’s still learning as a young player, but he’s took this new role in his stride and hopefully he will stay injury free and be a top player in world football.”
The Manchester United forward, who struck his 48th goal for his country, continued: “It’s great to score the winning goal but I thought it was a great team performance.
“I thought we were unlucky to go in behind at half time and we spoke about that and we came out on the front foot.
“I thought overall it was a great performance and Jack scored two great goals.”
The result continued England’s 100 per cent record in Euro 2016 qualification, and it also ensured that the Three Lions completed the season undefeated.
“It’s very important. There’s been a lot of progress since the World Cup. We spoke before the game, it was a long time ago when England last went a season unbeaten, and we are proud of our achievement.
“We need to keep improving now and make sure we qualify for the Euros and then take it from there.”
