The Tottenham Hotspur schemer picked up an injury during Sunday’s win over Sweden and has now been ruled out of the rest of the competition.
And with the Three Lions unable to call up a replacement now that the tournament is underway, head coach Gareth Southgate has rued England’s bad luck following the earlier withdrawal of striker Saido Berahino and loss of John Stones for the first two games due to concussion.
"Alex's injury is a great shame for him and for us," said Southgate, ahead of Wednesday’s group decider with Italy.
"Team-wise, we’ve gone past thinking about luck and what could happen, we’ve just got to plough on and plan.
"For Alex, he had a good impact on the tournament on the back of a really good season for him and it’s a shame he won’t be able to display his talents on this stage."
Meanwhile, Pritchard has said he wants to remain with the England squad to see his squad-mates in action against Italy.
The 22-year-old will take in the game against the Azzurri in Olomouc as the Three Lions aim to secure a semi-final spot with a result against Luigi Di Biagio’s outfit, who also know they must win to have any chance of progressing.
"He’s keen to stay for the last game and some of his family are out here so I think it’s nice for them to travel back together after this game," revealed Southgate.
"Thankfully, it sounds like it won’t be too long when he gets back so we’re hoping it won’t affect his build-up to next season."
