Fara Williams has 144 England caps
Fara Williams believes the lessons learned from Euro 2013 have hardened the England Women’s squad.

The midfielder was part of the Lionesses side that exited the European Championship at the group stage in Sweden two years ago, under then manager Hope Powell.

With Mark Sampson now at the helm, England have reached the FIFA Women's World Cup quarter-final.

"Two years ago we listened too much to the media, there was too much criticism," said the 144-cap veteran.

"If we listened to everyone outside our circle there's going to be a problem.”

The 31-year-old, speaking to the BBC, added: "We've had criticism [this time] but I think this is the best England team you've seen for a long while.

England huddle

Fara Williams says England's team spirit has helped them reach the quarter-final

"Whoever is on the pitch everyone on the bench is right behind us. It's such a nice thing to have all 23 people together and behind each other.

"It just shows what great shape we're in. The spirit is fantastic."

England’s second round victory over Norway on Monday was the first time England have won a knockout game at the World Cup.

They are now aiming to go one further by reaching the last four.

You can watch England take on Canada at 00:30am on Sunday, live on BBC One.
