Campfield boss Anthony Clarke celebrates at full time after their Semi-Final win

Campfield boss Anthony Clarke hailed his battling players after they made it through to their first ever FA Sunday Cup Final with a comeback win over Chapeltown Fforde Grene.

The Merseysiders ran out as 2-1 winners in the semi-final at Marine on Sunday and Clarke reserved special praise for goalkeeper Ryan Jones and midfield maestro Kev Macellin.

But the boss was most pleased with the way his side had shown great resilience after coming from behind to book their place in the final.

Firstly, Clarke heaped praise on Jones after he made a string of first-half saves to keep his side in the game, including one superb stop to keep out Daniel Sherriff's volley.

He said: "Without that save in the first half, possibly they could have gone on and scored a couple more. You're not going to see anything better than that at this standard of football, even higher."

Such was the quality on display, Clarke said it was near-impossible to pick a man-of-the-match, but feels Macellin's display was the pick of the bunch.

"I'd struggle to pick a man-of-the-match, I thought they were all unbelievable, especially when we went a goal down," he added.

"Every single one of them stood up, but Kev Macellin in the midfield probably shaded it.

"I thought it was a tight, hard-fought game.

"They shaded the first half, but we showed our character and ability when they went a goal up.

"It was going to go one of two ways: either we folded, or we rose and took the game to them. We did everything right and scored two quality goals."

Campfield will now face OJM in April's final, having survived a roller-coaster ride to get there.

Clarke concluded: "It'll be another tense, hard game, just like we've had in every round. We don't do things easy!"
