Birmingham City boss David Parker insists his side deserved to progress into The FA Women’s Cup quarter finals after beating Liverpool 3-1 on Sunday.

The Blues took the lead through Jade Moore but Natasha Dowie drew FA Women’s Super League 1 champions Liverpool level moments later.

Jo Potter then restored Birmingham’s lead with a free-kick before Remi Allen sealed the win from the spot late on after Satara Murray felled Freda Ayisi in the box.

"I am delighted because the performance deserved that today," said Parker. "Liverpool had a lot of possession in the second half but it was about managing a game of football. We had the lead and we defended it."

Manchester City are also through to the last-eight and boss Nick Cushing praised Nikita Parris after her double set up a 3-1 victory over Doncaster Rovers Belles.

It was a far-from ideal start to the encounter for City who were behind after just four minutes when Leandra Little’s header found the net for the WSL 2 side.

But Parris was on hand to pull City level with a curling effort after half an hour and she bagged the crucial second with a low drive into the corner after 79 minutes.

Toni Duggan rounded off the victory after 93 minutes but it was Parris who impressed Cushing most.

"She’s a really good attacking player and I think she showed exactly what she is about with that performance today," he said.

"I didn’t expect them to go in front but we always knew that it was going to be a challenge against a good side."

Elsewhere, reigning FA Women’s Cup champions Arsenal made light work of progressing by beating Millwall Lionesses 7-0.

Danielle Carter scored a hat-trick while Lianne Sanderson, Jordan Nobbs, Natalia Pablos Sanchon and Carla Humphrey also netted.

Across London, Marija Banusic also bagged a hat-trick as Chelsea beat Watford 6-0.

Ji So-Yun, Gemma Davison – from the penalty spot – and Mille Bright were also on target for the rampant Blues.

Meanwhile, Fiona O’Sullivan fired a late double as Notts County comfortably saw off the challenge of Tottenham.

Sophie Walton opened the scoring for the Lady Pies in the 16th minute and the WSL 1 side’s lead was doubled by Ellen White just after the break.

Ireland international O’Sullivan then scored twice in two minutes in the closing stages to seal County’s quarter-final place.

And they will be joined by WSL 2 outfit Aston Villa after their 2-0 victory at home to Sheffield – Katie Wilkinson and Olivia Ferguson the scorers.
