Nathan Holland is delighted to see his “brave and direct” approach for England Under-17s pay off having helped his country secure Euro qualification.

The Everton winger has produced two fine displays in the defeats of Norway and Slovenia.

He has scored one goal and created three others, to help the Young Lions qualify from the Elite Round stage with a game to spare.

“I’ve been pleased with my performances in the two games, these are really serious matches where all that matters is getting the points,” he told TheFA.com.

U17 Euro Elite Qualifying Round
7pm, Thursday 26 March

“I feel like I needed to improve from how I performed at the Algarve Tournament last month and get back to the level I showed in the first round of qualifiers. I think that I’ve done that.

“I’ve tried to be brave and direct, to create chances and score goals, and I was made up to get my second goal for England.”

“John Peacock [head coach] and Steve Cooper [assistant coach] spoke to me at the start of the week and told me exactly how they wanted me to play.

"I’ve worked very hard on doing that and I feel like I’ve improved a lot throughout my time here.”

The 2014-15 campaign has been a mixed bag for the U17s group. They suffered defeats against USA and Holland but have won each one of their five qualifiers so far.

“It’s a different feeling when it comes to the qualifiers – there’s obviously a pressure and we’ve dealt with that well," he added.

"Whenever we’ve been under the cosh we have bounced back well in the Euro games.

“It’s great to qualify after two games. We’ve worked really hard to achieve it, especially in the week of training leading up to the first game.

“There’s been a real togetherness about us this last week, and we are all delighted with how it’s gone so far.”

Despite having their place at the tournament in Bulgaria already booked, Holland and his team-mates are refusing to take their foot off the pedal as they prepare to finish with a win against Romania at St. George’s Park.

“We all want to finish on nine points, keep our unbeaten run going and to finish on a high.

“We will continue to work hard to ensure we do that on Thursday.”
