BBC continue to support The FA Women's Super League

The top division of The FA Women’s Super League returns tonight ahead of another competitive season as title holders Liverpool host Sunderland in the opening game - and the BBC will be at the heart of the action.

The BBC continue in their commitment to women's football with an array of programmes across all platforms to showcase the league and the England Women's team.

The Women's Super League will be covered extensively on BBC Two, BBC Radio 5 live sports extra and on the BBC Sport website throughout the season, either side of the FIFA Women's World Cup - which will also be live on the BBC.

The FA's Director of National Game and Women's Football, Kelly Simmons, said: "We are delighted that our partnership with the BBC continues to go from strength to strength.

"Their commitment to showcase top level women's football across all their platforms is fantastic for the game. Our fans, along with newcomers to the game, will continue to enjoy unprecedented levels of women's football coverage in what is an extremely exciting year.

"We have got a plan with our partners to develop high quality professional women's football in England and our partnership with the BBC remains instrumental in helping us deliver on our ambition."

FA WSL 1 kicks off on Wednesday with champions Liverpool taking on last season's FA WSL 2 champions Sunderland, and the match will be live on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra, from 7pm, with expert analysis from England and Notts County defender Sophie Bradley.

5 live sports extra's league broadcast began last week with Everton's WSL 2 win at Aston Villa.

And the station will have at least another 14 live matches before the end of the season. Follow all the action throughout the season at @thewslshow.

5 live sports extra can be accessed on digital radio, via bbc.co.uk/5livesportsextra, BBC iPlayer Radio and the BBC Sport website.

On TV, the Women's Football Show, presented by Jacqui Oatley, returns on Monday 30 March (11.20pm, BBC Two).

The first show of the season will feature former England goalkeeper Rachel Brown-Finnis, Sunderland's new head coach, and former Wimbledon Crazy Gang member, Carlton Fairweather.

There will also be a profile of Mark Sampson’s England squad ahead of the Three Lions' match against China on Thursday 9 April.

This season, the Women's Football Show will first be available earlier in the evening on the BBC Red Button and will then be available on BBC iPlayer, before its network debut on BBC Two.

The BBC Sport website will feature goals action throughout the WSL season, regular match reports, news and team-by-team preview features and three new regional multi-platform women's football reporters will deliver creative content across all platforms.
