Two extra-time goals from Sophie Jones were enough to help Blackburn Rovers beat Huddersfield Town 4-2 in the Women’s Premier League Cup first round proper.
Huddersfield had taken the lead through Jeneyah Webb, but Natasha Fenton levelled before half-time as her corner deflected in.
The visitors edged in front once more through Emily Heckler on the hour, but Beth Jennings inadvertently deflected Fenton’s free-kick into her own net to force extra time.

And though the sides could not be separated in 90 minutes, Jones showed her class in the additional half an hour to send Rovers into round two.

Goals from Hannah Campbell, Abi McIver, Paige Crosby and a Chantelle O’Hara penalty saw Bradford City to a 4-0 win over Leicester City.

Andi Bell bagged a brace in Nottingham Forest’s 4-1 win over Nuneaton Town and there were two goals as well for Billie Haynes in Sporting Club Albion’s 4-0 home win against Sporting Khalsa.
First-half goals from Ffion Price, Michelle Green and Kelly Aldridge helped Cardiff City beat Charlton Athletic 3-0 to reach round two.
Forest Green Rovers ran out 4-1 winners at Ipswich Town Amy Baker and Charlotte King adding to Kirsty Richardson’s double.
And Tottenham Hotspur also advanced with a 4-1 win over Plymouth Argyle, with goals from Jenny Moore, Maya Vio, Avilla Bergin, Leah Rawle.
In the Women's Premier League Plate, Newcastle United came from behind to inflict a 7-2 defeat on Peterborough Northern Star.
Emma Hewitt cancelled out Peterborough’s opener, before Ellen Turnbull edged the Lady Mags ahead and Dannika Purdham scored before half-time to put them in control.
In the second period Jess Havelock and Lizzy Fraser found the net, before Hewitt completed the scoring.
Ash Neville scored twice as Coventry United won 5-0 at Maidenhead United. And Emma Plewa was among the goalscorers in Lewes’s 3-0 win at Bedford.
