There was no shortage of goals in Friday's FA Vase action

Saturday 03 Oct 2015
There were four ties in The FA Vase on Friday evening
Six goals from Fred Woodhouse secured an emphatic 7-1 victory for Bishop Auckland over Holker Old Boys in a high-scoring night in The FA Vase second round qualifying.

It took the home side a while to get started but Woodhouse got his side off the mark with a header in the 36th minute.

David Palmer added the second but it took Woodhouse until the 62nd minute to double his tally.

From there, it was all guns blazing as he completed his hat-trick two minutes later and it was 5-0 after 72 minutes – with the relentless forward tapping in from close range.

It was six minutes later before Woodhouse completed the scoring for the home side with a curling effort after 76 minutes – a consolation coming with seven minutes remaining for the visitors.

Elsewhere, there was a 0-0 draw between Sholing and United Services Portsmouth but the scoring continued at Henley where the home side were downed 5-1 against Oxford City Nomads.

The Nomads wasted no time getting to work and, by the time Drew Boyd netted the third for the visitors, the game was all but over.

John Rixon added a fourth for the Nomads before Henley got themselves on the scoresheet but any hope of a miraculous comeback was squashed when Jamie Mundy netted a fifth.

And in the evening's other match, there was a 6-2 victory for Atherton Collieries over Atherton LR in the 'flat cap derby'.

The Colls went ahead after 28 minutes through Ben Hardcastle before John Green leveled things on the half-hour mark.

Matt Boland restored the lead before the break and he had his second after the interval as he rolled into an empty net from 20 yards.

Matt Grimshaw then put the result beyond any doubt with 15 minutes to play before Jordan Cover and Hardcastle made it six.

Ben Hyde managed to pull one back late on but it was scant consolation.
