England defender Phil Jagielka is set to miss the next two months with a knee injury, according to Everton boss Roberto Martinez.
The 33-year-old was substituted in the second half of Everton's 2-1 defeat against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday evening, following a challenge by England team-mate Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
And Martinez revealed on Monday morning that his captain could now be out for "eight or nine weeks" after a scan revealed the extent of the injury.
"It's good news really because we expected the worst, especially with the way the injury happened with the rotating of the knee," revealed Martinez.
"It could have been anything really, but we had the scan and it's the medial ligament which is affected.
"It's an injury which is quite straight-forward from that point of view, there is no other damage in the knee and thankfully the cartilage and the cruciates are very strong, so we're looking forward to getting Phil into rehab and how quickly we can get him back.
"It's hard to tell how long it will be, but we're going to take the right course of treatment and I wouldn't expect anything longer than eight or nine weeks, but it depends how we progress over the next few weeks.
"We have an international break in the middle, which is a good period so he's not going to miss too much of the action."
The injury means Jagielka will miss both of the Three Lions' games in November, against Spain in Alicante and the match with France at Wembley Stadium on Tuesday 17 November.
