Wigan Athletic saw off York City to progress into the second round of the FA Youth Cup, Chris Sang’s second-half double helping them to a 4-2 home victory.

James Barrigan got the Latics off to the perfect start at Robin Park Arena with a sublime effort, curling his sixth-minute free-kick over the wall and into the top left-hand corner.

York hit back just 12 minutes later when some arial pressure in the box paid off for the visitors and Tyler Walton headed in at the back-post from a corner.

And while it was then a close battle until the break, after half-time it was anything but, with Arnie Baxendale first coming close for Wigan when he was denied from the edge of the area by Kieran Price on 56 minutes.

Just five minutes later the Latics retook the lead, Luke Burke powerfully rising in the box to head home Baxendale’s corner.

Against the run of play York then equalised with 20 minutes remaining when Brad Freer raced down the left and hammered a shot low into the far corner.

But Sang handed Wigan a second-round berth with two late goals; first lashing home a volley from

Alex Lingard’s corner, before diverting Callum Lang's effort in at close range on 87 minutes.

Elsewhere, Sheffield United edged out Bradford City 4-2 on penalties after a nailbiting 120 minutes ended in a stalemate at Bramall Lane.

It was Sumaili Cissa and Danny Devine who missed the crucial spot-kicks for the Bantams, after Shea Gordon, Aaron Ramsdale, Callum Semple and Brodie Litchfield all made no mistake for the hosts.

Meanwhile substitute Josh Agbozo headed in a winner in the second-half of extra time for Shrewsbury who beat AFC Telford United 2-1, and Notts County won 2-0 at Northampton Town.

AFC Wimbledon brushed aside the challenge of Woking, as they run out 4-0 winners at home.

Reece Batchelor opened the scoring before a lovely finish from Neset Bellikli doubled their lead.

Dan Ano’s header made the result certain, before Alfie Egan earned his reward for an industrious midfield display with a late goal to complete the rout and send his side through in style.
