Wayne Rooney gives a speech to his team-mates

An emotional Wayne Rooney addressed his team-mates in the Wembley dressing room after becoming England's greatest-ever goalscorer.

The Three Lions captain finally broke Sir Bobby Charlton's 45-year record, smashing home a late penalty to seal a 2-0 victory over Switzerland.

The result will send Roy Hodgson's men to France 2016 as group winners, but the night truly belonged to Rooney.

He was given a hero's reception back in the dressing room by the rest of the England squad, as the manager presented the man of the moment with a special 'Rooney 50' shirt.

"Thank you to everyone here - the coaches, the players, the staff who I've worked with for such a long time," Rooney said in his speech.

"It's such a huge moment for myself and my family in my career.

"Hopefully for the team, for myself, there is a lot more to come and we can be successful. Hopefully there's a lot of the younger lads, Harry [Kane], Ross [Barkley], Raheem [Sterling] coming through who can come close in the future and even pass me.

"I'm grateful, it means the world to me. Thank you very much."
