AFC Fylde make light work of FA Youth Cup opener

There were 36 FA Youth Cup fixtures on Wednesday night

AFC Fylde produced a barnstorming performance as they marched through their FA Youth Cup Preliminary round tie with Radcliffe Borough 4-0.

After an even first half that had finished goalless, AFC Fylde scored four goals in the final 30 minutes. They never looked back after substitute Carnan Dawson scored direct from a free kick with his first touch of the ball on 58 minutes.

Zak Adekoya added a second for AFC Fylde just two minutes later, while the evening got even better for the visitors as Owen Futter scored number three on 72 minutes and then scored his second of the evening on 90.

Marine survived a scare at Skelmersdale United as they progressed thanks to a 90th-minute strike from Lennon Whewell in a topsy-turvy game that finished 4-3.

It was harsh on Skelmersdale, who thought they had forced extra time after levelling the scores at three apiece themselves in the final minutes thanks to a timely goal from Shawn Brady.

Elsewhere, Wells City were on the wrong end of a 6-2 hammering by Clevedon Town as they were outplayed from start-to-finish.

Dan O’Leary gave Clevedon the lead after five minutes, before Sam Downe added his side’s second goal after 12 minutes.

Kieran Padfield pulled a goal back for Wells on 24 minutes but the joy was short-lived as first Adam Sandy and then Archie Ferris made the score 4-1 to Clevedon.

Padfield scored a penalty on 41 minutes to make the half time score 4-2 but goals after the break from Alex Camm and Downe saw Clevedon comfortably progress 6-2.

Meanwhile, Halesowen Town hammered Bromyard Town 5-1, with Brad Ward and Sam Taylor among the goals and Concord Rangers lost 4-1 at home to Aveley.

Basford United won 7-1 at Bourne Town and Chelmsford City were convincing 9-1 winners at Waltham Forest.

The highest scoring game of the evening was at Sutton United FC, who beat Worthing United 10-1.
