The Emirates FA Cup never fails to disappoint and the first round qualifying draw was no different as it pitted a club from its inaugural competition, way back in 1871-72, against a club making the most of its return after almost a century away.
Peterborough Sports can trace their roots back to 1919 but after 1922 they never entered the FA Cup again – until this term.
Emirates FA Cup
First round qualifying
Winning sides receive £3,000
It has been quite a return already for the Turbines, dispatching Eynesbury Rovers and Newmarket Town, and this weekend they face Hitchin Town who reached the quarter-finals of the first-ever FA Cup 144 years ago.
Hook Norton, from Hellenic League Division One West, had not even won an FA Cup match before this season and their reward is a home tie against Eastbourne United from the Southern Combination League.
The biggest gap between two sides pits United Counties League Division One outfit Long Buckby AFC host Wingate & Finchley of the Ryman Premier.
There are already 344 clubs that have seen their FA Cup dreams ended and 116 ties will take place this weekend with winning teams receiving £3,000 – and there will be a particular interest in the FA's prize fund at Priory Park.
That is where Bodmin Town will welcome Almondsbury UWE on Saturday, which guarantees a step ten side making it through to the second round qualifying.
