Adam Lallana capped an impressive second-half performance with a goal, but Liverpool were held to a 1-1 draw in the Europa League by Bordeaux.
Brendan Rodgers handed a start to England Under-19 international Jordan Rossiter and the club’s second youngest goalscorer impressed in front of the back four.
Joe Gomez, Jordon Ibe and Danny Ings also all featured as Liverpool came away from the south of France with a point.

But it was Lallana, featuring for the first time since suffering a thigh injury against Bournemouth last month, was the star of the show and he opened the scoring with a wonderful 65th-minute strike.
The midfielder nutmegged Pablo and struck an effort past the reach of Bordeaux keeper Cedric Carrasso for his first goal of the season.
The England midfielder had earlier seen a neat turn and shot well saved by Carrasso, while Philippe Coutinho and Ings also went close to doubling the visitors’ advantage.
But Bordeaux substitute Jussie struck with nine minutes remaining to deny Liverpool victory in their opening Group B game.

Elsewhere on Thursday, Tottenham lined up with Danny Rose, Andros Townsend, Eric Dier (U21s) and Dele Alli (U21s) in their 3-1 victory over FK Qarabag at White Hart Lane.
Alli, making his fifth appearance for Spurs since joining from MK Dons, produced an outstanding display and played a part in two of their three goals.
Richard Almeida de Oliveira scored a seventh-minute penalty for the visitors but two quick-fire goals from Son Heung-min put Spurs in front before Erik Lamela sealed the win late on.
