Gareth Southgate is looking forward to welcoming Will Hughes back into the England Under-21s squad this week.
The Derby County midfielder has been missing for over a year after suffering a serious knee injury on the opening day of last season.
After working his way back to fitness and returning for the Rams this term, Southgate named the 21-year-old in his squad to face Norway in Colchester next week.
And the head coach admits he’s been pleased to see Hughes back in action, with the Surrey-born youngster having been a regular member of his Three Lions team prior to the injury.

“Will is getting back towards the level he was at, although in terms of the injury that he had, he’s still in the relatively early stages,” revealed Southgate, ahead of his squad’s meet up this week.
“We said we’d have a look at him at the back end of last season and at the beginning of this and he’s just got back into Derby’s team.
“So it’s a good opportunity for him to come back in with us as a group, just to see exactly where he is.”
The U21s face Norway at the Colchester Community Stadium on Tuesday 6 September in their next UEFA European U21 Championship Qualifier.
