When it comes to trawling through the Christmas TV listings, there can be few more pleasing sights than back-to-back Emirates FA Cup ties.
Tonight Notts County and Peterborough United do battle in a second round replay for the right to meet seven-time winners Chelsea.
And on Wednesday night League Two leaders Plymouth Argyle take on bottom club Newport County with the prize a trip to Anfield to meet Liverpool in January – both ties will be shown live on BT Sport.
The Magpies fought back from two goals down against their League One opponents in the original meeting at Meadow Lane but, if they are to reach round three, will need to defeat Posh for the first time since September 2010.
Notts manager John Sheridan said: “Peterborough are a very, very good team and I’m not counting my chickens. It’s going to be a really difficult game, they’ll be clear favourites but they’ll know we won’t be a walkover.
“I would love to go to Chelsea and I’m hoping the players would love to go there more than anyone. A lot of them will never get the opportunity to play there again.”
Newport held out for 67 minutes with 10 men at Home Park, with the game finishing goalless.
That result though, comes in the middle of a sequence of four successive league defeats that sees the Exiles propping up the Football League.
Two league matches have been abandoned at Rodney Parade this season due to a waterlogged pitch, and one fixture postponed.
But Newport have taken steps to ensure no risk of a repeat against Plymouth.
A club statement read: “Newport County will be putting a Macleod Cover over the Rodney Parade pitch on Tuesday morning as preparation for the FA Cup second round replay with Plymouth Argyle on Wednesday evening.”
