Alfie Egan’s dramatic late winner booked AFC Wimbledon an FA Youth Cup fifth round tie with either Chelsea or Manchester United as they beat Newcastle United 2-1 on Wednesday evening.
The sides were locked at 1-1 with just two minutes remaining at St James’ Park but Egan nodded home his second goal of the evening to send the visitors into raptures.
Wimbledon had taken the lead on 32 minutes when Jason Stripp’s sumptuous through ball found Egan who calmly beat Paul Woolston.

However, shortly after the break Lewis McNall fired the Magpies level as he converted Mackenzie Heaney’s pass.
Both sides had chances to grab a second goal but it took until the 88th minute for the decisive breakthrough as Neset Bellikli sent over a pinpoint cross that was headed home emphatically by Egan.
In the evening’s other clash, Middlesbrough secured a fourth round triumph as Mitchell Curry’s double saw them down Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 at the Lamex Stadium.
Just 60 seconds after hitting the inside of the post, Curry gave Middlesbrough a 23rd-minute lead as he cut in from the left to thump the ball past Tottenham stopper Alfie Whiteman.
Curry doubled Boro's lead after the break as he slotted his 12th goal of the season but Marcus Edwards gave the hosts hope on 59 minutes with a close-range finish.
But Austria Under-19s striker Arnel Jakupovic secured victory for the visitors shortly afterwards as he produced a composed finish after Christian Maghoma failed to clear his lines in the Spurs box.
