Wayne Rooney says it’s a "huge honour" to have been voted as Vauxhall England Player of the Year for 2015.
The award was decided by fans of the England Supporters Club over the last few weeks and the Three Lions captain wins the title for the second year in a row and for a fourth time, whilst Jack Butland was voted as Under-21s Player of the Year.
And Manchester United striker Rooney says the fact that it was the England fans who decided on their winner makes it all even more meaningful for him.
"To win this award is always a huge honour and to win it for a fourth time is something I’m very proud of,” said Rooney, via his Facebook page.
"The fact it’s voted for by the fans is what makes it very special for me."
Rooney scored five goals in his eight appearances for England in 2015 and also became his country’s all-time leading scorer after netting his 50th for the Three Lions against Switzerland in October.
With Roy Hodgson’s squad now starting to focus on this summer’s Euro Finals in France, Rooney believes there’s plenty to be positive about in the next 12 months.
"It’s been a great year for the team and for me personally," he added.
"We qualified for the European Championships with a 100 per cent record and I managed to overtake Sir Bobby Charlton to become England’s all-time leading goal scorer.
"Congratulations also to Jack Butland who won the U21s award, it’s well deserved and I’m sure he’s going to be a great goalkeeper for England.
"I would like to thank all the fans for their continued support and hopefully 2016 will be an even better year!"
